Waste Minimisation Education and Awareness Campaign
This is an on-going campaign to reduce the amount of household waste we produce in Herefordshire and Worcestershire. Currently the two counties produce more than 388,600 tonnes of household rubbish each year, much of which ends up in landfill sites.
We can do this by reducing unnecessary packaging, by using environmentally friendly products, by reusing products wherever possible and by recycling everything we can.
WTOF provides information and education resources, with special emphasis given to working directly with schools. The campaign has funded the employment of a full time teacher to liase with 12 primary and one secondary school in Herefordshire to advise on ways to help the environment by reducing the growing mountain of rubbish.
Another groundbreaking project, the first of its kind in the country, involved taking teachers from ten schools in Worcestershire who were trained in waste minimisation and recycling set within the curriculum. Each school received £3000 to spend on environmental initiatives as part the programme.
